Did you know that this past year huge corporations like FedEx, Amazon, Nissan and even Governor Lee's own company got billions dollars worth of tax breaks? Meanwhile, everyday Tennesseans are struggling to make ends meets, our schools are falling apart and public services are in dire need. It's not right.

We have to bring Tennessee back to basics, we need a state that works for everybody not just big corporations. That's why we need to end the grocery tax and close corporate loopholes. Core Civic in Mason, TN is seeking to reopen it's facility in partnership with ICE in order to hold immigrant members of our communities. Community members in West TN spoke at publicly against this action last week and while it seemed the vote was made in favor of not reopening the ICE facility, the Mayor of Mason came out publicly to state that the facility would reopen as a ICE facility. This is in complete opposition to the interests of the community in favor of corporate profit!

The Memphis and West TN AFL-CIO Labor Council is excited to host our Labor Day Community Celebration honoring workers. This year, we invite community partners and labor allies to sponsor the event. The Memphis Labor Council supports this effort through training, coalition-building, and political unity around shared issues—demanding good union jobs, fair education funding, better pay for educators, and corporate accountability. Join Clarksville Local 3180 Fire fighters call for a pay study to create competitive pay! Show your support and stand in solidarity with our fire fighters as they call on City Council for the fair pay, respect and recognition they deserve for the vital role they play in our communities.
